The Port of Rotterdam is more than just a port – it’s the largest in Europe. With thousands of hectares in size, waste management has always been a complex challenge. However, thanks to the innovative solution from Rebin, this challenge is now being transformed into an opportunity. In collaboration with Idverde NL, responsible for waste collection, the future of waste management begins today.
How does it work?
Advanced fill-level sensors have been installed in existing bins spread throughout the entire port site. These sensors accurately measure how full or empty a bin is. The data is transmitted to Rebin’s software application, where the fill levels of all bins are displayed on a clear dashboard. Based on this data, an optimized collection route can be scheduled, ensuring that waste collectors only empty bins that are sufficiently full. Additionally, the application gathers valuable data, such as the number of collections per bin and the total weight of waste collected. These insights contribute to the continuous optimization of waste management within the port.
What are the benefits?
More efficient: Thanks to Rebin’s technology, bins are only emptied when necessary. This eliminates unnecessary trips to empty bins, significantly increasing operational efficiency.
More sustainable: More efficient collection rounds also mean lower CO2 emissions. The system ensures that full bins are collected in a timely manner, preventing overflowing bins and the litter that results from them.
Smarter: All collected data helps build a smarter bin network. Unnecessary bins can be removed or relocated to areas where they are truly needed.
