The number of solar panels in use is rapidly increasing in the Netherlands, with many older panels being replaced by higher-capacity models to meet growing energy demands. ZonNext believes this trend leads to unnecessary waste, as solar panels have a long lifespan but are often recycled at a low value. To address this, Stichting ZonNext re-inspects and repurposes used and surplus solar panels, giving them a new social purpose and preventing them from ending up in landfills unnecessarily. Niels van Olffen will tell the story of his foundation, ‘the orphanage of solar panels’. He will share the business side of his work and will touch upon the challenges connected to working with used solar panels.
This session is ideal for renewable energy professionals, project managers, sustainability coordinators, local government officials, and community leaders.
